Happy Birthday to me!

Well, I'm 28 years old today. And mom was here to give me a "birth-minute kiss." ha. all in all the day has been excellent--I got to remove a toenail in clinic (it came off beautifully, in one piece), only one other patient showed up (they knew I didn't feel like working very hard), and I've mostly had the afternoon off. I do have a patient in labor who will probably keep us up all night, but I guess that's alright. As long as she names the baby after me...

Bec's Stitch 'N Bitch

Well, sort of.
I'm having a crafty get-together on May Day. Since not everyone I've invited is crafty, we're going to start with something easy. And it's really more just for fun and the sake of having a little party. My momma's gonna be here, then, too, so that's cool.
Our first project: glass etching. Something I've done before, and that doesn't really take any skill. Check out a great tutorial here. I think it's an excellent project because it can accomodate a wide range of talent, craftiness, and creativity. And it's cheap.
I think I may bake a yummy cake for the occasion, too. I've already got the bucket o' margaritas. yeah baby.

dog breath

It's a problem. Seems silly to pay attention to something so small, but when the dog spends most of his time trying to lick your face, it's an issue.
The Gipper did get into his pool (water-filled) all on his own today, even if just for a minute. That's fun.

What a little sneer.

What's better than Easter candy?

Easter candy 50% off! Yum. That totally fulfills two big desires I always love to indulge: a good sale and chocolate. Too bad I can't enjoy more of it. So I limited the amount I bought, and D will probably eat most of it for me.

And speaking of addictions, I learned tonight that 33% of Kentuckians have a substance abuse problem, and 1 in 7 Kentucky physicians do as well. Scary. Apparently we (and I) need to do a better job of finding and caring for these patients. And ourselves. Those are some sobering numbers.

Garden-a-palooza

Gipper says, "Where's the water?"

A newly seeded lawn.

We spent the day aerating, seeding, fertilizing, and watering the lawn. Plus weeding the front beds, and moving rocks, and planting in the garden. Quite a productive Sunday afternoon. It certainly doesn't hurt that the sun doesn't go down until 7:30. Now we just have to continue watering and watering and watering...throughout the summer. The stuff we've read recommends "several times a day for the first week, then daily." Not much of a commitment, really.

We invested in an aerator/spreader attachment for the lawn tractor, which was an excellent choice. When I tried to use the push spreader, I soon came to regret it. That's a good workout, but painful.

Who's the patron saint of grassy lawns?

Our pumpkin patch, torn up and ready to seed.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

And Happy Easter, too.
Not that I think you read this blog, but just in case. It's out there. I might even be the first to wish you a happy birthday.
Love you,
Bec

Accomplishmentation

I finished all five pieces of D's sweater finally! Now I've got to block it before I can sew it all together. I've never really blocked anything before. At least nothing this big. I really hope this works out. Otherwise I will be seriously annoyed. Seriously. It does look like I may actually have enough yarn to finish it. woohoo.
I'll post some pics of the finished pieces a little later.

We also managed to get some of the garden going, thanks to Dennis' maddox-wielding power. Peas are in, as well as 2 tomato plants and one banana pepper. Let's pray they make it. These are all new endeavors for me in the world of backyard gardening.

The fattest ever.

Yup, I've reached a new high. The fattest Bec ever. I really want some ice cream right now, too. No fair.

The Meltdown.

We saw Ice Age 2 tonight. It was about like I would expect--funny, but not particularly original. I'm not a huge fan of Queen Latifah, so maybe that's what bothered me. Still, it was enjoyable on the whole. Anything's better than watching Wedding Crashers again. Seriously.

tired

I'm feeling a bit like this after working until 9 pm. This is getting old. Only 3 more days, I can do it...

The new 'do.

Geeky shot of my shortest hair in 14 years.
It's a little flat on top, but it's been a long day.

It's only hair...

Well, I gave in and cut the hair yesterday. And I'm actually very happy with it. It's the shortest it's been since I grew it out in 8th grade (hmm, 14 years ago?). crazy. much better than the shorter cuts in my early life, however. I guess it's about 1-2 inches below my chin. But it's still long enough to put in a nub.
My head feels so light now--a strange sensation. And I totally used way too much conditioner last night. Have to readjust, I guess. I'll get around to posting some pictures later. You should see the pile of hair that was cut off--enough for 3-4 old-lady hairdos, I believe. heheh.
